Accessibility

Carers' tickets

Visitors with disabilities are charged standard admission rates (adult/concession/child). Proof of disability is not required. Up to two accompanying carers receive free entry per transaction.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are permitted at all our sites and within roofed areas.

Parking

The level gravel car park has no accessible bays marked.

Toilets

The island has no toilets.

The nearest public toilets are by the car park, and include an adapted toilet.

Approach to the site

Visitors must take a small boat to reach the island on which Threave Castle stands. Visitors must be able to climb the steps into and out of the boat.

The jetty is about 800m from the car park along a mostly level gravel path. The eight wooden gates along the path each have ‘easy latch’ opening systems. The jetty is then reached down six concrete steps.

What to expect at the site

Access to the upper levels of the castle is via open tread and narrow spiral staircases all with handrails.

Pathways and surfaces on the island are mainly grass. These rise and fall across different areas of the monument site.
