Parking
The large car park is gravel with one accessible bay.
Approach to the site
The site is 20m from the car park along a reinforced grass path. There is an 8cm step down through a 90cm-wide gate.
There is an alternative gravel path into the cloister that avoids the gate.
What to expect at the site
Access to the visitor centre is over uneven wall footings, up three steps and over a short ramp with a 10cm step with a handrail.
The abbey nave and transepts have a short grass surface, which is firmer in dry weather. The main routes around the monument are gravel or grass.
There is one 15cm step onto the gravel path around the cloister.
There are numerous archaeological remains within the grass, which can be difficult to see.
Toilets
Nearest adapted toilet is about six miles away at Harbour Square, Kirkcudbright.
