Overview
Imagine the noise and bustle of a medieval mercat place marked by this 1400s stone cross.
Ormiston Cross stands in the middle of the pretty 1700s planned village of Ormiston. But the cross is much older, probably dating to around 1450, making it it one of the few medieval mercat crosses surviving in Scotland.
We know little about Ormiston Cross, except that it probably dates to around the same time as the first mention of the village of ‘Ormistoun’ in the mid-1400s.
