Whithorn Priory and Museum

The Whithorn Priory nave is open all year round.

Whithorn Priory Museum opening times:

• 1 April to 31 October: Sunday to Friday, 10am to 4pm.

  • Closed for lunch 1.30pm to 2.15pm.

  • Last entry at 3.30pm.

• 1 November to 31 March: Closed

It is free to visit Whithorn Priory nave.

To visit the Whithorn Priory Museum and crypts you'll need a ticket. Ticketing is managed by the Whithorn Trust. Prices for the combined ticket which gives access to the:

• Whithorn Priory Museum (carved stone collection)

• Whithorn Priory Crypts

• Whithorn Story Visitor Centre

• Iron Age Roundhouse Reconstruction

No pre-booking necessary. Tickets are available from the Whithorn Story visitor centre.

Historic Scotland members get free access to the Priory, Whithorn Priory Museum and Whithorn Story visitor centre, but must pay an additional fee to visit the Roundhouse. (£4.80 adults, £3.80 concession, £2.90 child)

The Historic Scotland members' retail discount does not apply at the Whithorn Story visitor centre.

Carers' tickets

Visitors with disabilities are charged standard admission rates (adult/concession/child). Proof of disability is not required. Up to two accompanying carers receive free entry per transaction.

Assistance dogs are permitted at all our sites and within roofed areas.

Parking

There is on-street parking nearby. Visitors can also be dropped off at the entrance to the monument.

Approach to site

The museum and priory are 70m from the public parking along a tarmac road and pavements.

Visitor centre

The museum has step-free access and is on the level.

Monument

The priory site is about 20m from the museum along a tarmac path.

Entry to the priory grounds is through a narrow wooden gate.

The ruined nave of the cathedral church sits on a small but steep hill. All entrances to the nave have at least one step and are approached across grass.

Access to the vaults is down historic stone steps. The floor inside the vaults is gravel with many level changes. There are no windows and light levels can be very low.
