St Ninian's Chapel
St Ninian's Chapel
Follow in the footsteps of pilgrims at this ruined 1200s chapel.
St Ninian’s Chapel was first built in the 1100s to serve local worshipers and the pilgrims travelling to St Ninian’s Shrine at Whithorn. The chapel that survives today is not the original—it was rebuilt around the year 1300.
The chapel was one of several places where pilgrims would stop on their journey, along with spots like Chapel Finian and the Laggangarn Standing Stones. Today, visitors walking the same route can place a stone on a modern “Witness Cairn” in the nearby field.
