Huntingtower Castle is on the western edge of Perth.

By bus and train

The number 15 bus connects Perth, Crieff, and Stirling. From Perth city centre, it takes about 20 minutes to reach the castle. Use the stop at Castle Brae/A85.

There are regular trains to Perth from all of Scotland’s major cities.

By bike

National Cycle Network Route 77 runs within half a mile of the castle. A cycle from Perth station to the castle is 5.5 miles. Racks available for up to 4 bicycles.

By car

The castle is on Castle Brae, off the A85 (Crieff Road). Parking is limited. There is no parking larger cars or campervans or similar vehicles.

Carers tickets

In line with best practice in the visitor attractions industry, visitors with disabilities are treated on an equal basis with all other visitors and entry is charged at the appropriate admission category rate - Adult/Concession/Child. Proof of disability is not required.

We recognise that some disabled visitors may need help to visit our sites and we offer free entry for accompanying carers, these can be added when making your booking. Please note this is limited to two carers per transaction.

Parking

The small car park is level tarmac. There is no car park access for larger cars or campervans or similar vehicles. There is a public carpark nearby at Tesco where you can park for a charge.

Approach to site

The visitor centre is 12m from the car park. The castle is then a further 12m across gravel and along a flat stone path. There is a turning point through the gate, in front of the visitor centre. Access is shared by multiple users, including vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.

The visitor centre has step-free access.

Monument

The West Tower is up 13 stone steps with a handrail on one side, which leads to the great hall. A spiral staircase of 37 stone steps with handrail, takes visitors to the West Tower battlements.

The Laigh Hall in the East Tower is accessed on the ground floor by a ramp. There is a step at the entrance (step-free access can be arranged by the steward). A spiral staircase of 26 steps with a handrail, leads to the first floor hall, which has a painted ceiling.

The stairs (with handrail) continue with:

  • 19 steps to the bedroom

  • a further 18 steps to the East Tower battlements

A wooden walkway of 12 steps joins the two towers at first floor level.

The walkway around the battlements has an uneven surface.

Toilets

There is an adapted toilet on site.

Dogs

Assistance dogs are permitted at all our sites and within roofed areas.  

Visitors' dogs are allowed at Huntingtower Castle, but are not permitted in roofed areas. 

Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and not left unattended at any time. Owners must pick up after their dogs.
