Kisimul Castle is on a small islet in Castlebay, just off the Isle of Barra – a 5-minute crossing in a small boat from Castle Slip Landing, Castlebay (weather permitting).

Opening times

Kisimul Castle is closed until further notice to allow for conservation works.

You can explore the visitor engagement centre at Castlebay Community Hall and you can also get closer to the castle by taking a short boat trip into Castlebay.

Visitor Engagement Area:
16 Apr to 12 Sept:
Tue to Sat, 10am to 4pm.
Closed for lunch 12 noon to 1pm.

Boat Trips:
17 Apr to 12 Sept:
Thur to Sat, 10.30am, 11.15am, 12 noon, 1.45pm, 2.30pm, 3.15pm and 4pm.
Please present your ticket to HES staff in Castlebay Hall 20 minutes before your sailing.
