Opening times

The Great Hall at Kisimul Castle is closed until further notice to allow for maintenance works. Admission prices have been reduced to reflect this.

1 Apr to 30 Sept:
Daily (except Mondays), 9.30am to 5.30pm - weather permitting
Last outward sailing 4.30pm

The castle is closed from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.

1 Oct to 31 Mar:




Hop on a boat to make the memorable journey to the ‘Castle in the Sea’. The seat of the chief of Clan Macneil is the only significant medieval castle to survive in all of the Western Isles.

What to see and do

  • Take in Kisimul’s spectacular site on a rock in the bay to see how it got its nickname
  • Follow in the wake of the clan chiefs who went before as you make the short boat trip to the island
  • Climb up to the tower house battlements for panoramic views of Castle Bay
  • Take our fun fact-finding quiz (also in Gaelic) while exploring the castle. Available on site
