Our Plans for 2018-19
We want Scotland’s historic environment to be better known and understood. To make this happen, we will:
record places and how they change over time
improve access to the data we create, collect and hold
undertake a research programme to better inform how we care for and promote Scotland’s historic environment
invest in digitisation, providing access to more of our archives and collections than ever before
Scotland’s historic environment is irreplaceable. To care for and protect our unique places, stories and traditions, we will:
continue to maintain the heritage assets in our care and their associated collections
work with the Scottish Government and other partners to deliver a reformed planning system
develop new policies that will help us protect and celebrate historic sites now and in the future
deliver training programmes in traditional skills through our dedicated conservation centre, the Engine Shed
We look after over 300 buildings and monuments in Scotland.
Every year, we publish an annual report on the upkeep and management of our Properties in Care.
To help more people celebrate and enjoy the historic environment and improve our national wellbeing, we will:
welcome more than five million visitors to the properties in our care from Scotland and beyond
grow opportunities for volunteering
strengthen our sense of place and contribute to our improved health and wellbeing
provide learning opportunities for local, national and international audiences
promote Scotland’s cultures, stories and traditions
We are a high-performing organisation. To deliver our vision, we must build on the strengths that are our foundations. During 2018-19, we will:
develop our digital services to provide enhanced experiences for our users
put our staff at the core of our business through our People Strategy
improve the quality of the services we are delivering in every area of our business
ensure that the historic environment makes a full contribution to the reduction of inequality in our society
92% of our staffed sites achieved a Visit Scotland rating of 4 stars or above.
