Duff House is to take centre stage and provide the backdrop for an open-air production of Danny the Champion of the World.
Helping celebrate one hundred years on since Roald Dahl’s birth, on the evening of Thursday 30th June the Illyria Theatre Company will bring his much-loved 1975 children’s book to life and re-tell this story of adventure, mischief and feathered birds.
Adapted for the stage by David Wood, this outdoor performance will see the audience follow the tale of Danny and his dad, William, on their adventure. The story takes them from their caravan into the pheasant-filled woods owned by the greedy and wealthy character, Mr Hazell. Feathers are sure to fly as Danny and his dad come up with a daring plan to outwit and embarrass Mr Hazell and become champions at pheasant catching and of the world.
Graeme Curran, Manager at Duff House, which is managed by Historic Environment Scotland, said: “Duff House is the perfect setting for this outdoor re-telling of one of Dahl’s best known works.
Popular with children and adults alike, Danny the Champion of the World promises to be an evening filled with adventure and mischief.
“It’s also made doubly special that we welcome this performance during a year that celebrates Roald Dahl and his stories.”
