Claypotts Castle, the striking 16th century castle located in Dundee, will reopen to visitors on selected dates this summer.
The Castle will open to visitors free-of-charge on Saturday 17 May, Sunday 15 June, Saturday 26 July, Saturday 16 August and Saturday 20 September. The castle will be open from 10am to 4pm and closed for lunch between 12.30pm to 1.30pm.
Built in the late 1500s, during James VI’s reign, Claypotts Castle is one of Scotland’s quirkiest castles, and was in consistent occupation for nearly 500 years. It features complex geometry of round towers, stair turrets and intriguing corbelling of the attic rooms. The tower house is something of a time capsule. Having barely been altered, it retains many original features including its timber roof.
Patricia Arthur, Monument Manager at HES which manages Claypotts Castle, said:
The castle is an outstanding gem of Scottish architecture, and I hope visitors will enjoy exploring the unique features of this historic site.
