Stirling Castle, one of Scotland’s greatest stone castles, will be hosting a series of Christmas events across December, allowing visitors to get into the festive spirit with afternoon teas, shopping trips, crafting workshops and theatre shows.
On Tuesday 3 December, the ever popular Christmas Shopping Fair will return to the castle. Stock up for the festive season in the splendour of the Great Hall, Palace Apartments, and Chapel Royal with stalls showcasing the very best of local Scottish brands, crafts and fine foods and drink. A brass band will provide musical entertainment and there will be seasonal treats to enjoy such as delicious mince pies and mulled wine. This year, there will also be the chance to meet weatherman Seán Batty who will be signing copies of his brand-new book, ‘The Worst Christmas Weather Ever’!
Christmas Afternoon Tea will be on offer in the Great Hall on selected dates from Saturday 7 to Sunday 15 December, offering a dining experience fit for royalty and a feast featuring festive favourites like pigs in blankets, salmon blinis, turkey and mince pies. Plus, there’s an option to add a glass of prosecco to toast to the festivities! The package includes entrance to Stirling Castle, with pre booking required.
A Festive Wreath Making workshop will take place on Sunday 8 December, where visitors can craft their own wreath to add a touch of homemade charm to their homes this Christmas.
And from Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 December, Charles Dickens’s classic yule-tide tale will be brought to life with the Chapterhouse Theatre Company’s production of A Christmas Carol. Taking place in the Great Hall, with dazzling musical sequences and authentic period costuming, this production promises to be the perfect evening out this festive season. Join family and friends at the most magical time of the year and be swept back in time nearly two centuries. The shows on the 21 & 22 December will be BSL interpreted.
Douglas Wilson, District Visitor and Community Manager at Stirling Castle for Historic Environment Scotland, said:
