What to expect on your visit

Much of the castle and the grounds are open to visitors. Take a stroll through the ruins of the east range, climb down to cellars and enjoy scenic views of the River Tyne.

While conservation works are ongoing, some of the castle ruins won’t be accessible during your visit, including:

  • West end of the inner courtyard

  • West tower

  • East tower (doocot)

Opening times and prices

Hailes Castle is free to visit and open year-round.

The site is open for you to enjoy but there are currently some partial access restrictions in place at the west end of the inner courtyard, west tower and doocot.

How to get here

The castle is 1.5 miles south west of East Linton off the A1. Very limited parking is available. Please park responsibly and with consideration for our neighbours.
