The site is approximately 1 mile north of Taynuilt.

By train

Taynuilt station is served by trains between Glasgow and Oban. The furnace is a mile from the station.

By bus

Buses run to Taynuilt from Oban, Dalmally, and Tyndrum. The furnace is a further mile on foot from the Taynuilt Hotel bus stop.

By bike

The furnace is 13 miles from Oban along National Cycle Network Route 78.

By car

Take the B845 through the village, then follow signs to Bonawe Iron Furnace. Parking is available.

Carers' tickets

Visitors with disabilities are charged standard admission rates (adult/concession/child). Proof of disability is not required. Up to two accompanying carers receive free entry per transaction.

Parking

The rough gravel car park has no accessible spaces marked.

Nearest parking space is on flat ground 8m from the visitor centre, with a gate wide enough to allow wheelchair access.

Visitors approach the site along a gravel path.

What to expect at the site

The shop has step-free access.

Bonawe is on a hill, with areas of shingle and cobbles on its slopes. 

The main circular route around the buildings is on gravel and grass surfaces and is about 250m long. The ground is uneven in places.

The main exhibition room has 8 wooden stairs (with handrails) between its two levels. There is step-free access to both levels from outside.

The nearest adapted toilet is 9.5 miles away at Tesco, Lochside, PA34 4HP

Dogs

Assistance dogs are permitted at all our sites and within roofed areas. Visitors' dogs are allowed at Bonawe Iron Furnace, but are not permitted in roofed areas. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and not left unattended at any time
