Literature in the Factories and Mills

On until Sunday 30 June 2024

Stanley Mills

Explore the literary activities of Victorian factory workers as writers and readers, and how they used their writing to represent their experiences of working in a rapidly changing industry.

The exhibition includes work by three worker poets from Stanley who were writing in the mid - late 19th century.

This exhibition was part of the AHRC/HRC funded ‘Piston, Pen & Press’ research project, led by the Universities of Strathclyde and Manchester, supported by local industrial heritage venue partners.

Please note that the lift in the Bell Mill is currently out of service. An engineer is working on the issue and we'll update once the lift has been fixed. Apologies for any inconvenience.
