Access

Carers tickets

In line with best practice in the visitor attractions industry, visitors with disabilities are treated on an equal basis with all other visitors and entry is charged at the appropriate admission category rate - Adult/Concession/Child. Proof of disability is not required.

We recognise that some disabled visitors may need help to visit our sites and we offer free entry for accompanying carers, these can be added when making your booking. Please note this is limited to two carers per transaction.

Parking

There is a large, level tarmac car park.

Approach to site

The site entrance is 42m from the car park along a level gravel drive and stone paved path.

Visitor centre

Both visitor centre and shop have step free access.

Monument

The ground floor of the castle has level access.

On the ground floor are the:

  • kitchen
  • wine cellar
  • bakehouse

The first and second levels include the:

  • great hall
  • gatehouse
  • gallery

Upper levels of the castle are reached by a stone staircase with a handrail. Steps may be uneven.

In the keep, a spiral staircase of 63 steps leads to the wallhead.

Light levels are low in many areas.

Dogs

Assistance dogs are permitted at all our sites and within roofed areas.  

Visitors' dogs are allowed at Newark Castle, but are not permitted in roofed areas. 

Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and not left unattended at any time. Owners must pick up after their dogs.
