Holyrood Park is open 24 hours a day, year-round.
Closures
We have regular road closures (i.e. on weekends) and there can also be unexpected closures within the park. There are also external events that take place at Holyrood Park that may impact your visit.

Cyclists
Off-road cycling is not permitted. You may cycle on the marked cycle paths as well as on the roads.
Fishing permits
Fishing permits are available for Duddingston Loch, please contact rangers@hes.scot to arrange.
Access at Holyrood Park
- Sturdy footwear with a good grip is recommended for exploring Holyrood Park.
- Walking just a short distance can take you from tarmac pavement to rugged and uneven ground.
- Watch out for slippery surfaces and sheer drops.
Parking
- Parking is available at Broad Pavement, St Margaret's Loch and Duddingston Loch car parks.
- Overnight parking is not permitted in the park.
- Dunsapie Loch car Park is open to vehicles from Tuesday to Thursday, 9.30am-3pm.
You must pay for the parking at Broad Pavement (near Holyrood Palace). The cost is £1 an hour. Historic Scotland Members are not exempt from the charges. Charges apply from 8.30am to 5.30pm daily, except on:
- Saturday
- Sunday
- Good Friday
- Easter Monday
- 25 and 26 December
- 1 January
Toilets
Toilets which are annexed to the Holyrood Park Education Centre are available during the following hours:
- April & September: Daily, 8am to 5pm
- May: Daily, 8am to 6pm
- June to August: Monday to Wednesday, 8am to 5pm and Thursday to Sunday, 8am to 7pm
- October to March: Daily, 8am to 3pm
They are cleaned on an hourly basis and hand sanitiser is available.
