What to expect on your visit
Kisimul castle is closed until further notice to allow for conservation works.
Kisimul Castle, the ancient stronghold of the MacNeil clan, makes an unforgettable first impression as it rises from a rocky islet in the middle of Castlebay. Its dramatic position earned it the nickname “the castle in the sea”. Your visit begins with a short boat trip across the bay, following in the wake of the clan chiefs who once travelled the same route to reach their island refuge.
