Parking at Hermitage Castle

Please note, there is limited visitor parking available at Hermitage Castle. There are no accessible bays marked. Minibuses can access the car park but there is no parking for coaches. Coach drivers can contact the site in advance for advice on parking arrangements.

Carers' tickets

Visitors with disabilities are charged standard admission rates (adult/concession/child). Proof of disability is not required. Up to two accompanying carers receive free entry per transaction.

The visitor centre is approached across the car park.

Approach to site

The site is 200m from the car park along a mainly grass path. There are several steep sections on the route, particularly when crossing the old castle defences.

Visitor centre

The visitor centre is 100m from the car park along the route to the castle. There is a shallow step into the visitor centre.

Monument

The area around the outside of the castle is cut grass.

The castle entrance has a slight threshold. The courtyard is cobbled and the rest of the ground floor is gravel.

An elevated walkway in the south-west corner is reached via a modern metal staircase of 13 steps with handrails on both sides.

A metal access stair in the north-west corner has 21 steep steps and one handrail.

The north-east walkway is reached via a narrow stone spiral staircase of 18 steps (16 with handrail).
