Accessibility

Carers' tickets

Visitors with disabilities are charged standard admission rates (adult/concession/child). Proof of disability is not required. Up to two accompanying carers receive free entry per transaction.

Assistance dogs are permitted at all our sites and within roofed areas.

Parking

The level tarmac car park is next to the visitor centre. It has a dropped kerb and no accessible spaces are marked.

Approach to site

There is a steep, tarmac path with anti-slip surface for 120m, followed by 30m of level gravel path to the castle.

What to expect at the site

The visitor centre has step free access and interior. Grassy banks surround the castle.

Inside, much of the castle can be seen from the ground floor, which is level with stone slabs, however, there is more to explore in the upper hall and prison area for those able and keen to do so. The castle interior can be a little dark on a dull day, although the inner stairs, lower hall and prison area have electric lights.

The first floor is reached via a steep, L-shaped stone staircase of 15 steps with no handrail. The second floor is reached via a modern, open-tread, metal spiral staircase of 38 steps with a handrail.

Toilets

There are two accessible toilets located in the visitor centre.
