Rothesay Castle is suitable for:

  • ceremonies
  • photography

Unique among Scottish castles for both its early date and unusual circular plan, Rothesay Castle offers you a wedding venue like no other. Built in the early 1200s, the castle had a long and close association with the Stewart kings of Scotland. Today, its splendid moat and impressive gatehouse lend wedding ceremonies and photography a suitably dramatic air.

Roman Catholic wedding ceremonies can’t be held at Rothesay Castle.

Great Hall

Capacity: 60 people seated or 100 standing (80 standing and 20 seated)

Cross the moat and climb the stairs to your wedding ceremony in the main chamber of the castle. Restored in 1900, the Great Hall boasts many original features. Its immensely thick stone walls are exposed, while a beamed wooden ceiling adds warmth to the room.

St Michael’s Chapel

Capacity: 40 people seated or 60 people all standing

Hold your small wedding in this intimate and romantic space. The chapel, which is in the castle’s courtyard, was added in the early 15th century, when James IV and James V made substantial changes. Wheelchair accessible.

Courtyard (open air)

Capacity: 60 people seated or 100 standing (60 standing and 40 seated)

Get married outside, right at the heart of Rothesay Castle. The courtyard is a stunning outdoor space to have your ceremony. Wheelchair accessible.
