Edinburgh Castle is the perfect romantic venue for full daytime or evening ceremonies and receptions, with spaces to accommodate micro weddings to dinners for 120 and receptions for up to 170.  

Edinburgh’s oldest building, St Margaret’s Chapel, can host intimate ceremonies, or you can begin married life in one of several grander venues, including the beautiful bright Queen Anne Building. Each comes with sweeping vistas right outside the door. 

Weddings are available from October to May with selected availability in June and September.

Queen Anne Building

Capacity: Ceremony 120 people, reception up to 170 people. 

A sumptuous setting at the heart of Edinburgh Castle, perfect for grand wedding banquets and bright, beautiful ceremonies. Available for your exclusive use, the Queen Anne Room can host your afternoon ceremony and evening reception. Drinks and canapés are served in the adjacent indoor courtyard. A private viewing of the Honours of Scotland, Britain’s oldest crown jewels, can also be arranged. The venue is wheelchair accessible. 

The Queen Anne Room is not available during The Edinburgh Military Tattoo in August. 

Many circular tables are set ready for dinner guests in a long rectangular room.

Gatehouse Suite

Capacity: Ceremony and reception 40 people 

These 19th-century rooms at the entrance to the castle offer a luxurious setting for your special day. The larger, wood panelled room is ideal for small wedding ceremonies, and canape receptions, or smaller dinners. A private terrace with breathtaking views across Edinburgh can be accessed for drinks receptions and wedding photographs. The Gatehouse Suite is reached via a spiral staircase.

St Margaret’s Chapel

Capacity: Ceremony 25 people

Celebrate your special day in the spectacular, historical chapel built for the sole use of the royal family. David I had St Margaret’s built around 1130, making the chapel Edinburgh’s oldest building. Beautifully preserved and with spectacular panoramic views just outside the door. Drinks and canapés can be served in the Queen Anne Ante Room, or the Queen Anne Building following the ceremony. The chapel is wheelchair accessible.

Jacobite Room

Capacity (outside opening hours): 100 people (dinner), 150 people (evening reception)

For evening weddings and reception celebrations, enjoy modern interiors within the setting of an 18th-century building complete with magnificent high ceilings. The dramatic views from windows overlooking Princes Street and the Firth of Forth will thrill your guests and provide a stunning backdrop to wedding receptions. The room is wheelchair accessible. 

The adjoining Redcoat room is ideal for pre-dinner drinks and either room can be used for dancing. 

Tow very long tables are set ready for dinner guests to arrive. The long rectangular room has a high a-frame wooden ceiling and windows on every wall.

Types of ceremony

The Queen Anne Room and Gatehouse Suite can host civil, religious and humanist ceremonies. St Margaret's Chapel can host religious ceremonies only (all denominations).

Please note that Catholic ceremonies cannot be performed at Edinburgh Castle, because it is not on consecrated ground. 

Transport and accessibility

Edinburgh Castle is easily accessible by rail, bus and road, and only a short journey from Waverley train station. Edinburgh Airport is well-connected to the castle by bus or tram. Most of our event spaces are fully accessible and there are accessibility vehicles available to support guest access.

Public use of our properties

The castle will remain open to daytime visitors while your wedding is in progress. There will be no access to your ceremony and people will be asked to respect your privacy. Similarly, your special day shouldn’t cause inconvenience to other visitors. You will have exclusive use of the Gatehouse Suite and Queen Anne Room.
