Admission
We have introduced limits on visitor numbers to help keep everyone safe, and you will not be able to visit without booking online in advance. This include Historic Scotland Members, and Members of English Heritage, Cadw and Manx.
We will be updating our social media channels as more dates are available to pre-book, but to be among the first to hear sign up to our newsletter.
Due to physical distancing and the overall safety of our visitors and staff, some areas of the castle will remain closed.

What will be open during your visit
- One way system round the main ground floor areas
- All external areas will be open via paths
- Chapter house (capacity restricted)
Some areas/facilities will remain closed for now, we have a phased approach to re-opening while we work to make them safe.
Open
1 April to 30 September:
Monday to Saturday, 9.30am to 5.30pm
Sunday, 2pm to 5.30pm
1 October to 31 March:
Daily except Sunday, 10am to 4pm
Advance booking required.
Closed for lunch daily from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.
It may also close for private services, if travelling specifically to see the site, please call the cathedral on 01786 823 388 in advance to check to avoid disappointment.
