Overview

Step inside one of Scotland’s noblest medieval churches. A tower from the 1100s formed part of a later church dating to the 1200s. Sir Rowand Anderson restored the cathedral in the late 1800s.

What to see and do

  • Gaze up at the four-storey red sandstone tower – the oldest part of the church, built in the 1100s
  • See the weathered interior walls of the nave, which had no roof for 300 years
  • Walk among the choir stalls dating from the 1400s – these rare survivals are some of the finest of their type in Scotland
  • Marvel at the ornate Gothic western doorway, a truly grand processional entrance
