Access

Parking

The small tarmac parking area has no accessible spaces marked.

Approach to site

The car park is next to the ticket office. The castle is then 40m across a hard, level surface and a further 25m over cobbles.

Visitor centre

Access to the shop is up two short ramps.

Monument

The ground level of the castle has generally uneven surfaces.

This level contains the:

  • bakehouse
  • servants’ quarters
  • storage cellars

Light levels in these rooms can be low.

Upper levels are reached via a spiral staircase with 38 steps (no handrail).

Toilets

An adapted toilet is next to the shop. The door is quite heavy, but a steward will be happy to help with this.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome:

  • at all Historic Scotland properties
  • within roofed areas
