Our Holyrood Park Ranger Service is here to help you discover everything that makes this iconic landscape special.

The team leads guided walks, family activities, and school sessions throughout the year, helping visitors of all ages explore the park’s wildlife, geology, and fascinating history in an engaging, hands‑on way. Whether you’re joining a themed walk, a children’s holiday activity, or simply stopping by with a question, the Rangers are always happy to help you get the most out of your visit.

As caretakers of the park’s natural environment, our Rangers spend much of their time looking after Holyrood Park’s wildlife and habitats. They carry out biodiversity surveys, monitor rare species, and help maintain the grasslands, lochs, and rocky slopes that make the park such a unique green space in the heart of Edinburgh. Their conservation work ensures that birds, amphibians, insects, and plants continue to thrive here.

Rangers also support visitors across the park every day. They answer questions, offer safety advice, and help people to use the park responsibly. They’re the team to speak to if you need a free fishing permit for Duddingston Loch or guidance on the best routes and viewpoints. As part of their role keeping everyone safe, they work closely with the emergency services, assisting during accidents, wildfires, or other incidents where their knowledge of the landscape is vital.

Friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the park, the Holyrood Park Rangers are an essential part of making every visit enjoyable, safe, and memorable. Say "hi!" if you spot them out and about.
