Sniffer and HES announce exciting collaboration

Sniffer and Historic Environment Scotland have established a close working relationship over many years, working together to progress climate action in Scotland, particularly focused on work to adapt to climate change.

Historic Environment Scotland and Sniffer have developed a series of joint initiatives that will further develop and deepen their collaboration:

  • Historic Environment Scotland Director of Finance, Donella Steel, is one of the founding members of Adaptation Scotland’s new Climate Finance Working Group contributing valuable knowledge and expertise and ensuring that Historic Environment Scotland are at the leading edge of progressing this important and growing agenda.
  • Historic Environment Scotland Climate Scientist David Harkin is now working with Sniffer to develop a series of projects to support improved use and communication of climate information. David will focus on increasing understanding of climate information user needs and developing creative and engaging approaches to helping people connect with and use this information.
  • Sniffer, through the Adaptation Scotland programme will work closely with HES as they apply the Adaptation Capability Framework across all directorates; learning from this work will be shared widely and will benefit organisations doing similar work across Scotland.

These new initiatives build on a wide range of existing work which includes Historic Environment Scotland’s long-standing commitment to championing the role of the historic environment in place-based adaptation across the country, including through the Edinburgh Adapts initiative.

Sniffer’s Managing Director Ruth Wolstenholme said:

“Collaboration is at the heart of Sniffer’s commitment to building a Scotland where communities, organisations and businesses flourish in our changing climate. Scotland’s culture and heritage form a vital part of our adaptation activities and we are delighted to have the opportunity to work more closely with Historic Environment Scotland. I look forward to progressing our new initiatives and know that they will make an important contribution to a climate ready Scotland”.

Alex Paterson, Chief Executive of HES, said:

“The need for a resilient historic environment as we face the impacts of our changing climate is more pressing than ever. I’m very pleased to have this opportunity to strengthen our collaboration with Sniffer as we embark on work to better understand the climate risks and develop adaptation plans that we believe will bring great benefits to HES and the wider sector.”
