Vitruvius Scoticus
Vitruvius Scoticus was conceived by William Adam in the early 18th century as a Scottish companion to Campbell’s Vitruvius Britannicus. The book contains detailed drawings of Scottish country estates and public works including Hopetoun House and the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
In this talk Frederick Alexander-Reid (Library and Search Room manager) will recount the publication history of Vitruvius Scoticus, which includes sibling rivalries, near-misses, and a struggle over familial legacy.
After the talk there will be an opportunity to view a first edition copy of Vitruvius Scoticus, as well as original HES archive material.

Some limited parking is available at John Sinclair House.
This talk will take place in an archive search room, so visitors will be asked to deposit coats and bags in a locker.
