The perfect example of where architecture meets social history, the tenement has been a constant in the life of urban Scotland.
John Michael Allan, Acquisitions and Loans Officer, HES Archives for this examination of tenements in Scotland’s cities. Using photographs and architectural drawings from our Archives, this talk will look at the history and evolution of Scotland’s tenements from the Middle Ages to the present.
We will also consider what lessons Scotland’s tenement legacy has for us today.
After the talk there will be an opportunity to view original archive material, and to visit the free exhibition about tenements.

Some limited parking is available at John Sinclair House.
This talk will take place in an archive space, so visitors will be asked to put coats and bags in a locker before entry.
