Halloween Hijinks at Stirling Castle

Step into a frightfully fun celebration of Scotland’s Halloween traditions at Stirling Castle with hands-on activities for all ages!

Dress in your best Halloween costume to dook apples, join a ‘dancing scream’, and discover how Halloween was celebrated in centuries past.

Beware! Roaming the castle will also be mysterious figures, from a hedgewife telling tales of ancient folklore to the provost with grisly tales of gruesome crimes from long ago!

Wild Magic! An Autumn family trail

Magic is running wild across Scotland this October and plants and trees are sprouting uncontrollably at some of our sites! Gather your family and help us find them all in this self-guided family trail!

Along the way you’ll discover the ancient stories the people of Scotland have told about their magical properties and powers and discover their uses.

Wild Magic! is included in site admission, find a participating one near you! The trail will take place between Saturday 10 October and Sunday 1 November.

Tales from Trinity House

Tales of mysterious ships, strange superstitions, and vexatious vanishings abound in Leith’s Trinity House.

Our resident storyteller will uncover the ongoings tucked away in Edinburgh’s hidden gem, where maritime history feels as fresh as the wind blowing off the ocean.

With a Little Ones tour suitable for 5+ and a regular tour for 12+, discover the stories of Leith’s seafarer’s this Halloween!

Whispers of the Past at Edinburgh Castle

At Edinburgh Castle the past rubs shoulders with the present so much that some of it is bound to sneak through the cracks!

Join our guides for a journey through the grounds of this ancient site and explore the thin veil between past and present, and those shadows and whispers that have been left behind.

If you’re brave enough, join our expert guide for a chilling journey through the castle’s shadowed spaces after night has fallen for a hair-raising evening exploring the dark side of Edinburgh Castle’s history. This evening tour is not for the faint of heart and strictly for 18+.

Halloween Shenanigans at Craigmillar and Urquhart Castle

Two of our fabled sites are donning their Halloween colours and putting on a scary show this Halloween day.

Head to Urrrr-quhart Castle for a truly unforgettable experience. You’ll encounter a variety of wonderful animals from the Scottish Exotic Animal Rescue. If you’re no fan of creepy-crawlies, stay away! You can also discover fascinating stories and learn more about these remarkable animals.

At Craig-thriller Castle enjoy a truly enchanting Halloween experience as the Master of Owls and Ravina the Storyteller will be present. Discover the story behind the iconic jack o’lantern and meet a parliament of owls!
