Pick out the 5,000-year-old carvings on this well-preserved outcrop of rock art.

Kilmartin’s many rock art sites share similar motifs, but the Kilmichael Glassary carvings each possess their own unique character. Among the cup and ring marks are several keyhole-shaped carvings, which aren’t found anywhere else in the area.

We can never know its precise meaning of these carvings, but they remain a fascinating subject for study.

A rectangular outdoor information sign mounted on a metal gate, titled ‘Kilmichael Glassary’. The panel explains that the rock nearby contains 150 Bronze Age carvings made between 1800 and 1000 BC, whose purpose is unknown.
