Castle Semple Collegiate Church
Castle Semple Collegiate Church hero image gallery
Admire the details of this late Gothic church, founded in 1504by John, Lord Sempill. It was to serve his castle, of which nothing remains today.
Located next to Castle Semple and Barr Lochs, both important for their plants and birds, with an RSPB visitor centre at the south end of Castle Semple Loch.
Sempill was killed fighting the English at the Battle of Flodden in 1513, and his son had the church extended to accommodate his father’s tomb. This extension is still visible today in the church's unusual three-sided east end.
