During the summer months, the grounds and and visitor centre are open for you to enjoy. The castle is closed to visitors for now due to ongoing conservation work.

Built in the later 1400s, this castle is a fine example of a Scottish tower house castle. The fortified residence was home to the McCullochs, a prominent Galloway family. They were noted for their support for John Balliol’s claim to the throne in the 1200s and 1300s, but also for their lawlessness.

A high drone shot showing the stone tower and its surrounding walled grassy area, set beside a patchwork of wooded areas, fields, and a nearby house at the roadside.
A drone‑view looking down at the roofless stone tower and its surrounding grounds, bordered by woodland and a winding road, with distant hills under a grey sky.
