Cnoc Freiceadain Long Cairns

  • Near Thurso, Caithness

Overview

Discover a pair of large Neolithic burial monuments dominating the local landscape.

Two long-horned burial cairns, set at right angles to each other, sit on the skyline at Cnoc Freiceadain, looming large over the surrounding rural Caithness landscape.

The cairns are thought to be more or less contemporary in date, though they have never been excavated. Their undisturbed nature means they could reveal a great deal about Neolithic society and beliefs.
