St Rule's Tower

Originally built in the 11th century, St Rule’s Tower pre-dates the cathedral.
Look out across St Andrews from the highest point in the town.

From here you can see right across the cathedral precinct, across the town, the castle and out over the sea and countryside.

Originally, the only way to get to the top was to climb ladders between wooden floors inside the tower. A stone staircase was added in the 18th century.
