Victoria threepenny
Queen Victoria (1837–1901) is shown in her youth on this threepence coin or ‘thruppenny bit’. Issued in 1875, the coin carries the ‘young head’ portrait of Victoria, with ribbons in her hair.
Beneath the bust is a legend that translates as ‘Victoria by the grace of God Queen of Britain Defender of the Faith’. It is written: ‘VICTORIA D G BRITANNIAR REGINA F D.’.
On the tails side is a crowned figure ‘3’ (showing the coin’s value), a wreath of oak leaves and the year of issue.
