Grave slab from the churchyard at Mochrum, near Whithorn, which was found built into a byre at Boghouse. On the front it is decorated with two simple crosses with wedge-shaped arms, and there is another on the back. These are incised not with the usual pock-and-smooth technique, but instead with a deep V-section cut. This stone was carved sometime after the ‘Whithorn School’ period. Designs became simpler and more crudely carved, and it seems the exceptional skills of previous generations were lost. On display in the Whithorn Priory Museum, Whithorn, Dumfries and Galloway.
