This fragment of bracelet was found on Dunadd Hillfort. A member of the public found it on top of a mole hill. The mole dug it up from deeper in the ground as it moved earth to make a tunnel. This happens to lots of archaeological material. This makes it difficult for archaeologists to know where exactly the object came from, making it harder to date the object accurately. It also means it can’t be related to other artefacts or a specific location.

There has been activity at Dunadd from the Bronze Age through to the medieval period. It is most likely the bracelet is from the Late Bronze or Iron Age. Bracelets very similar to this in shape and material have been found at sites from these periods in Scotland. However, as it is a stray find, we cannot date it for definite.
