Scotland urged to vote for Stirling Castle in British Travel Awards

Will it be third time lucky for Stirling Castle?

Time is running out for members of the public to vote for Stirling Castle in this year’s British Travel Awards (BTAs) before voting closes on Friday 30th September.

The world of Scotland’s Renaissance kings and queens is the only Scottish site in the running for this year’s Best UK Heritage Attraction category at the British Travel Awards - the largest consumer voted awards programme in the UK. The castle is competing for the public vote alongside the Giant's Causeway, Beamish Living Museum in Durham, Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire, Titanic Belfast and the Tower of London.

This is the third time Stirling Castle has been nominated for the accolade, so staff are appealing to the people of Scotland to help put this iconic piece of history on the map with a 2016 win.

Liz Grant, Executive Manager at Stirling Castle, which is operated by Historic Environment Scotland, said,

“It’s wonderful to be nominated for this award once again, and great to be shortlisted alongside such iconic heritage attractions. All of us are keeping our fingers crossed it will be third time lucky for Stirling Castle. We welcomed a record breaking 215,461 visitors through our gates this summer, so we’re hoping they will take the time to vote – but as the only Scottish attraction in the running we’d hope the people of Scotland will also give us their vote. To our friends across the globe, it’s worth noting that visitors who live outwith the UK can vote too!”
