During a planned inspection of the natural rock faces in Holyrood Park, our specialist geotechnical engineers identified several areas where the rock face above sections of the High Road is currently unstable. This instability is the result of natural decay, accelerated by changing weather conditions. To ensure the public’s safety, we plan to temporarily reduce the width of the High road below these areas of rock face through the installation of a protective barrier system.
To allow for this, the High road and pavement will be fully closed to public access from Wednesday 17 February. We aim to re-open the reduced width High road and pavement to pedestrian and wheeled access by the end of Friday 19 February.
While we apologise for any inconvenience this might cause, the safety of park users is paramount. We would ask people to stay out of the exclusion zones at all times to avoid any risk of serious injury or fatality.
