Balvaird Castle Tours
Join us for a guided tour around the interior and exterior of Balvaird Castle. 2026 marks the first time the inside of the castle has been accessible for visitors in over a decade.
Enjoy stunning views of the surrounding rolling hills from the roof walk and hear stories about the Murray family and life in the 16th Century. Balvaird Castle has recently been used as a filming location for the Outlander prequel, Blood of my Blood. Fans of the show will recognise Balvaird as the location of Castle Leathers.
As the castle is undergoing conservation works, the internal part of the tour requires each visitor to wear a hardhat and high-visibility vest. These will be provided to each visitor. Appropriate (sturdy) footwear must be worn.
Tours will start promptly. The castle is around 485 metres away from the car park up a gradual incline, please take this into account to arrive in time for the start of the tour.
For health and safety reasons, the tour is not suitable for children under 7.
Accessibility may be a challenge for some visitors as the tour route is via uneven surfaces, a spiral staircase and, weather permitting, access to the roof walk.
Dogs are not permitted in the roofed areas.
There are no visitor toilets on-site.
