What if I need to do work urgently?

If works are urgently necessary in the interests of health or safety then they may have consent under Class V of the Class Consents Order.

The works you do must be limited to the minimum measures immediately necessary. Such measures may include putting up temporary fencing or barriers to keep people at a safe distance.

In some situations excluding people may not be effective and the minimum measures immediately necessary could also cover works such as:

  • the removal of loose masonry

  • the felling of trees

  • other minor works where there is an immediate threat to the public

Notification form

You must use our notification form to inform Historic Environment Scotland of any works carried out under Class V. You should provide a full description and justification of the works.

Do any other works have class consent?

Other works that are permitted include some agricultural and horticultural works. Works included in a written management agreement made with Historic Environment Scotland may also have consent.
