Castle Life Tour

Explore some of the main spaces in the castle with an interactive tour delivered by a member of the learning team onsite.

This facilitated tour of the castle can be included in your learning visit, subject to availability. It is suitable for Primary 1 to Primary 7 and takes 45 minutes.

Accessibility: The tour takes the group into the great kitchens, which are not wheelchair accessible.

How to book

Themed Tours

A themed facilitated tour of the castle can be included in your learning visit, subject to availability. They are 45 minutes long and are suitable for Primary 4 upwards. Tours can be adapted to meet the required age/level.

Explore the castle through the lens of a specific period and learn about the lives of related characters and events. Tour can be themed to the Wars of Independence, Mary Queen of Scots or the Jacobites.

Accessibility: The tour takes the group into the great kitchens, which are not wheelchair accessible.

Learn about castle life through the eyes of the castle’s master mason. The 90-minute workshop includes a tour exploring spaces related to the character, object handling, STEM focused activities and challenges, that look at how castles were built.

Meet the castle jester

Learn about castle life through the eyes of Jon, James V’s jester. The 90-minute workshop includes a tour exploring spaces related to the character, stories of Stuart times and a chance to learn juggling skills.
