Explore castle building and materials in our dedicated play space. These STEM based self-directed sessions provide opportunities to use familiar and unique resources that encourage engineering skills, problem-solving, imagination and, of course, fun!
This free self-led play zone activity can be included in your learning visit, subject to availability. It is suitable for early years to Primary 3. It's adaptable to group needs and the recommended duration is 30 to 50 minutes.

How to book
Castle Construction Trail
This self-led exploration activity helps learners to spot and explore shapes, materials and colours around the castle.
It is suitable for early years to Primary 3 and can be including in your learning visit, with no fixed duration..
Trail materials are provided for pupils in a drawstring bag. These include spotter cards, wooden blocks and fabric samples. Group leaders cards include a map, suggested stopping points, facts and activity suggestions.

Castle Life Storytime: Cruachan
This facilitated activity is suitale for early years to Primary 3. It lasts one hour and is included in your learning visit, subject to availability.
Meet Cruachan, the mascot for the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Regiment, and his friend James the drummer boy. Enjoy a tour of Stirling Castle and discover how Cruachan the pony came to his friend’s rescue just in the nick of time!
Puppets of key characters, object handling and role play make the story come to life for learners in this fun and engaging session centred around story.

Castle Life Storytime: Roary the Lion
This facilitated activity is suitable for early years to Primary 3. It lasts an hour and is included in your learning visit, subject to availability.
Come for a roar-some adventure with Roary the Stirling Castle lion. Discover the story of a brave lion who lived in the castle 500 years ago and meet his friends as they stand-up to the grumpiest cat around, Clarty Claws!
This immersive session uses puppets, role play, historical objects and a tour to bring the history of Stirling Castle to life for young learners.
