We invite you to our conference, which brings together an exciting range of international speakers to deliver insights and advice on how to embrace the opportunities of responsible tourism approaches.

Taking place during Scotland’s Climate Week, we will launch Historic Environment Scotland’s Responsible Tourism Framework and showcase innovative approaches to responsible heritage and cultural tourism.

Alongside talks, there will be workshops that focus on sharing ideas and identifying innovative actions to make tourism better for people, planet, and prosperity.

A networking lunch will provide you with the opportunity to continue discussions and explore the cutting-edge immersive hub and wider interpretation in the Engine Shed.

Conference topics

Seizing opportunities of a green transition

We will look at examples of circular economy principles being used in cultural heritage tourism. We will explore how you can maximise a positive impact on the environment by enabling visitors to be responsible through low-carbon itineraries and experiences, in addition to using sustainable and slow travel infrastructure.

Unlocking the value of cultural heritage tourism – Wellbeing, skills, and co-creation

We will explore how cultural heritage tourism contributes to community wellbeing and a sense of place. Our examples share how we can create meaningful exchanges between local people and visitors by co-creating experiences using local knowledge and traditional skills.

Harnessing digital innovation to transform cultural heritage tourism

We will see examples of partnerships and cross-sectoral work on innovative approaches to transform cultural heritage tourism and support new climate solutions. We will also see how digital and virtual processes can improve the accessibility of heritage and cultural tourism experiences.
