[POSTPONED] In the Spirit of Morris

Selected dates from Tuesday 7 April 2020 to Saturday 25 April 2020

Dovecot Studios

Interior of a workshop full of plaster casts and moulds

In light of updated Scottish Government advice regarding Coronavirus we have taken the decision to close public access to our staffed properties and our events have been postponed until further notice. If you would like to keep up to date about our events please sign up to our newsletter.

This exhibition reflects on the influence of the famous 19th century artist and designer, William Morris. Morris was a hugely important figure in the Arts and Crafts Movement. His love of craft, nature, history and beauty is evident in the work of the designers and craftspeople celebrated in this exhibition.

Come along to Edinburgh’s Dovecot Studios and explore the work of Scottish Arts and Crafts designers including Robert Lorimer, Arthur Sydney Mitchell, Thomas Hadden, and Whytock & Reid.

The collection of photographs on display have been taken by the Historic Environment Scotland (HES) Survey and Recording team. Over the years, they have captured the details of over 300,000 places in Scotland, which have all been added to the National Record of the Historic Environment

Curated by Simon Green, Architecture Survey & Recording Projects Manager at HES, this exhibition explores the distinctive contribution that Scotland has made to the Arts and Crafts movement.

This exhibition is a collaboration between Dovecote Studio and Historic Environment Scotland and compliments the May Morris: Art and Life exhibition, also at the Dovecot Studios.
