Panel discussion. “Archaeology of Scotland’s Contemporary Past” Hidden in this oxymoron lies an unfolding part of archaeology as a developing discipline. From its traditional roots at looking at the past, this area of research and engagement deals with the near past and present.

We turn the ‘archaeological lens’ towards recent and present situations that are affecting us now and could have unknown future affects on the people of Scotland.

Archaeology is well positioned to explore the present and turn its myriad of approaches towards our fast-moving present. By applying traditional and emerging methods we begin to explore the potential for an archaeology of the contemporary past.
