First in a series of two walks. Join an expert geologist and a Ranger on a 3 hour guided walk to discover how the landscape of Holyrood Park has been shaped and sculpted by ice through the ages. Explore areas of the park to learn how to identify distinctive land features left by glaciers.

Route contains rough tracks, uneven and boggy terrain, steep inclines and declines.

The walk is suitable for ages 12+.

  • Meeting Place: Nicol Fountain, at the St Leonard’s/Commonwealth Pool Entrance to Holyrood Park on Holyrood Park Road (map provided)

  • What to Bring: Warm, waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear with good grips. A snack and a drink.

  • Parking: Limited on street parking available on Holyrood Park Road

  • Toilets: No Toilets are available on this route

  • Road Closures: Holyrood Park Roads are closed to vehicles at weekends.

  • There is the possibility of large events taking place in Holyrood Park or at the Scottish Parliament which could restrict access or cause delays getting to the meeting point.
