Sweetheart Abbey

Take yourself on a walking tour of New Abbey to discover this fascinating village. Learn about the history of Sweetheart Abbey and Lady Devorgilla, New Abbey Corn Mill, and Shambellie House and the Stewart Family.

The day offers the chance to visit all three historic buildings for free, walking on the new footpath linking the village to Shambellie House. There will be re-enactors and guides at all three locations to bring the history to life with a map and guides to help. Once you have dropped in to each location you will you will begin to understand the history of this special conservation village and how it has come to be.

Book for Storytelling with Bruce’s Trust at Sweetheart Abbey which will take place at 11am and 1pm, otherwise drop in anytime between 11am and 3pm to enjoy a historical day out.

Refreshments will be available at Shambellie House and the local café and shop will be open.

Free drop-in event at New Abbey Corn Mill, Sweetheart Abbey and Shambellie House.

There will also be Storytelling with Bruce's Trust at Sweetheart Abbey, 11am and 1pm. Booking is advised.

Please wear appropriate clothes for the weather as stories at Sweetheart Abbey are outdoors. Also sensible footwear as part of the paths to Shambellie House is through woodland.

The route between venues is a mix of cobbled paths, pavements and grass.
