Join us at the Engine Shed, Scotland’s dedicated building conservation centre, for a two-day course* delivered by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), where you can acquire valuable knowledge and skills so as to consider the conservation needs for both residential and commercial properties, as well as historic monuments and sites.

With half a million listed monuments and over 6 million traditional buildings in the UK, this course has been developed in response to the considerable need for building professionals who understand the nature and practicalities of conservation.

Within this course you will learn:

  • The philosophy behind conservation

  • Technical analysis of buildings, ensembles and sites

  • How to diagnose various building issues

  • How to identify the best building conservation solutions

  • Ways to work with stakeholders

  • Best practice regarding providing advice

Our objective is that by the end of the course you will feel confident in your ability to apply practical skills towards the conservation of buildings and monuments, and feel better informed regarding this field of practice.

All participants who pass the end of course exam will receive a certificate of attainment from the CIOB. Additionally, participants who have successfully passed this course will be eligible for further recognition under the new CIOB Building Conservation Certification Scheme in 2017.

*The training is in accordance with the ICOMOS (International Council On Monuments and Sites) Training and Education Guidelines, as well as the latest British Standards on conservation of historic buildings (BS 7913: 2013).
